1ac- Almost wear down stile (4)

Not doing it this week...could the "t" in stile be the misprint and "wear down" be something you can do with your teeth?

Ixion is right about 1ac. 4ac and 24dn are thematic words and so the clues have no definitions.

I am struggling to establish the theme. Can some kind
Forum member provide a 'heavy' hint?

Posters in the other place suggest an obscure theme
which brings back fond memories!

Rosie, you have to highlight the author as the link! It is part of a trilogy and autobiographical.
