I think this is correct but can't parse it...any ideas?

Take out the first and last three letters of cassowary - you are left with SOW

Chain letter read out on the radio - SIERRA is the only word that remotely seems to fit a possible Def. (Mountain Chain) but if it's correct why 'On the radio'?

Suddenly reveal source - SPRING? If so, how is it parsed?

Sierra is the International Aviation Authority code for the letter S.
(Alpha, bravo, charlie etc)

Just double checked - it's the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet!

Spring is a sudden movement, and a source of something - don't know if that's relevant for the other half of the question!
