Having trouble with the top half!!

8a Fried food is wasteful (8)
(Some clues do not have a defn)

I've only just started, but I think 8 is a double definition - a type of fried food and "is wasteful" as a singular verb.

I've spotted the theme. It's not the overall definition that's missing - it's the "theme part" in each that isn't clued.

Something of the same sort as 6 (which, in fact, I haven't decided on yet - it's a clue that I didn't have to) is part of the ANSWER to each clue, but is not referred to at all in the clue itself. The full definition IS given, though.
