This appears to be ACID FREAK (anag FACED AIR K)
but it does not fit either of the two sides of the grid.
Any help please.

ACID FREAK is correct, Rosie, and it goes on the righthand side of the grid. If it doesn't fit then you've made a mistake elsewhere.

I had imbalm for 9a.

Imbalm is wrong, I'm afraid, though it does start IMB. It's a word I hadn't heard of. If you've got the two words across the top, then look them up in Wikipedia and search for a Celtic equivalent (a blue word that is a link). It is not in Chambers.
