4d: Headmaster's put in order for this plant shed (6).

The answer is Retama

Headmaster put in order could be retama shed.

My problem is, I thought the Ximenean rule, to ensure fair play was you could break up a clue into

clue definition OR definition clue

Which would mean you were looking for a word meaning headmaster, shed or possibly plant shed.

I easily got the answer because the barred grid format left R?TAMA, but I think the clue is unfair.

Any thoughts?

Agreed - as far as I'm concerned the def should be the first or last element.

Thank you -bullfrog - otherwise the setter could hide the definition anywhere in the clue.

If the last two words were transposed, I'd think the clue was okay.
