Hello jolan , I don't normally take part here (but often look in!) today the snow in Newcastle has got me housebound .
Think I've cracked the middle three of your nifty clues - any gentle prods for 1 & 5 ?

Actually 4 is my weakest ! Gonna give it another go -the gentle prod instead of the cruel cathoilc ? (not a hint)

1 is a classic jolan clue - as you don't join in often, you might not be aware of his style. I don't want to give away too much, but an anagram is involved, but not straightforwardly!

Look for the anagram indicator. However the "fodder" has too many letters.....
