I think the other answer could be HUGGER MUGGER which has to do with secrecy. Mugger (a criminal) and, I guess Hugger is a word that journalists use for someone who follows another for a story (I never heard of it)?

I can see greystoke now though I hadn't heard of film previously. As for hugger mugger, I'm not sure but cant think of anything better either

Hugger Mugger with someone means you share secrets etc. with them, ie you are very close.

Sorry I was in a bit of a rush earlier this morning and missed the obvious ...

The word "reporters" means "sounds like" in this arcane world of crosswords so ... "closely to follow"=HUGG + "a"="ER" + "criminal"=MUGGER. The result is HUGGER MUGGER (ie secret, secrecy and other meanings, although is usually hyphenated) but has nothing to do with journalists as I earlier wrote in error.
