Strange surrealists possibly rile this composer. The answer is Strauss but I can't figure out why. Any thoughts?

Take "rile" from "surrealists" and you'll get an anagram of strauss?

Thanks! I do like to know why an answer is what it is. No indication in the clue though that 'rile' needs to be removed from surrealists.

the clue indicates that one anagram of surrealists is rile strauss - effectively adding rile to the answer rather than removing it from the earlier word in the clue
