Anyone figured out 12A. The only word I can get to fit is "Antecede", but this isn't in the Concise Oxford as a vowel.

Yes, I have "_N_E_E_E". The "N" from 1D "pageaNt", and "E" from 13D "Embankment", an "E" from 3D "templE" and the final "E" from 9D "undErground".

Hi Jim,
yeah, that's what I thought until I dug out the big fat dictionary and it only shows noun and adjective derivatives, no verb "to antecede". I guess it must be right though.

It should be ok as it is/was a verb.
