oh great.Google mentions Selkirk,Cowper Thoreau etc-I can have my pick...still very grateful to have got help.

it's from a poem by william cowper about alexander selkirk, who is thought to have inspired the tale of robinson crusoe. i should really check these 'facts' but i think that is about right.

Trevor,thx again.I found Cowper as the guilty one in my book of Quotes but didn't read up on the rest.Always happy to get info about general knowledge.Now duvet,it is freezing indoors where I live(mallorca).Brrr

...go outside, catch a goat and skin it, then you can make a nice pair of socks, a hat and some mittens. Alexander Selkirk did just that (i'd imagine) - very toasty.
