This was discussed on another thread. The consensus was BARK - vocalisation, and also a ship (from friendship separated?)

I thought "separated" might mean B ARK=FRIEND SHIP: ARK=SHIP, but why does B mean FRIEND?

I think "ship" is "bark" (alt. barque), so the definition is "Vocalisation of friend". Hence the "when separated" bit...

...make sense?

Aha! Friend, as in "man's best friend". That'll be it.

Finished (I think) but can anyone explain 14D please?

14D Primate's go slow providing appetiser
A_E_I_I_

From the outset (i.e. even without crossing letters) I thought it was aperitif, but I can't parse it apart from primate = ape

rit. is short for "ritardando" in music, meaning "slow down" -"if" is (something - sorry - can't remember the clue)
