Earth left around metal piping

I have R?E?Y

It seems like REEDY (piping ?) but can anyone explain the clue ??

Yes, I now think I've sorted it :

DY = symbol for Dysprosium (a metal)
RE = symbol for Rhenium (another metal)
The other E comes from "Earth left"

REEDY = piping
Tenuous I know, but this compiler regularly
invents clues as bad as this one !!
