Have I gone wrong?
31d Wrapped in paper, its a knitted bear.
I have S?S?A?? The only word I can find to fit is SUSTAIN but have no idea why it should be the answer.

paper is the Sun itsa knitted - anagram of sun and itsa - bear, sustain.

16a Sloppily sentimental guy finally joining old golf club.
I have S?O?N? and am thinking it might be SWOONS. Somethigng to do with the end of Troon.....?

Spoony - spoon is an old golf club, with y - end of guy, spoony, sloppily sentimental.
