Another mediocre one from Neil Shpeherd [sic]. Yes they even managed to spell the compiler's name incorrectly! Here's three examples of strange clues:

28A Energy limited the range of sound reflection (6) - ?C?O?C

I put ECHOIC as it fits the second part of the clue and I can see E for energy; but from where does the CHOIC come?


14D I travel south of Spain (3) - E?O

I put EGO, but I don't understand the wordplay.


24D Ben's not reasonable about the ring of colour (6) - A?E?L?

I think the answer is AREOLA as it fits the second part of the clue, but how does the "Ben's not reasonable" part fit in?

14d. E = spain
Go = travel
go below (south of) E= EGO = I

28a. Energy=E + CHOIC(E) i.e. choice=range,limited means cut short.

Thanks terry. Now they make sense.

24d. Take B E N out of reasonable and it's an anagram
