Stuck on last one; 12a "Queen's comment cut, first of expletives smothered" (4)

I've got -e-w and so assume the answer is Meow; cut short = mow(n) and e=first of expletives inserted. But the queen's comment is puzzling; can only assume its a vaguely homophobic reference to the cattiness/bitchiness of queens?

A female cat is a Queen, nothing nasty in it.
