There was a clue in yesterday's puzzle
which left me slightly baffled. 7 Down:-
"They're lined up in pub for some light
study". The answer appears to be "optics",
but apart from "light study", I can't see
the rest of the clue.
Re your other query, I am no expert but have a read here for a bit more on use of ellipsis and other punctuation, always remember though that setters make and break the rules often.
I don't really know to be quite honest MRW, I originally thought they were linked in the setters mind....but clearly that is not always the case. It seems that sometimes they simply can't find a more appropriate beginning or end to a clue. I'm sure one of the Chris(es)(e or g) AB, Trevor will have a better explanation.
Hi mrw
Just listening in on this one. When I started, ellipses usually genuinely did indicate a relationships between the two clues or answers; but increasingly they are simply used as misdirection, it seems.
