Rossim, I saw it as 'count'=reckoning,'ry'= track/railway. I didn't really like 'hike' equalling 'up', but I suppose it's ok.

Thanks for your reply Malone.I was happy with the count bit which is why I suggested the answer. However,I thought it was a poor clue. I like to have an aha moment when I see the answer and I didn't.
