Can someone please explain the word play for 17Ac

Bearing rubbish and litter (5)

Think I have the answer but don't fully understand why!

bearing = SE
plus anagram of AND

Thank you Trevor, had been scratching my head as to how 'DAN' could mean rubbish, hadn't thought of it as an anagram.

I actually found this quite a misleading clue, and - before I'd got any of the interlinking answers - at first entered 'SCRAP':

S = Bearing
CRAP = Rubbish
SCRAP = Litter

But of course that was wrong!

Scrap makes perfect sense to me, i'd award myself an extra point for that.

Only problem is, it doesn't fit! I had to change to "Sedan", too!
