Please could someone confirm that:
2 down: Attack meek souls, knocking out bishop (4) I think it's sail but don't 'get' the wordplay
Also I'm stuck on 1 down: Slag heap providing cover for 12 (4-4) _A_E-_ _ _ A
and 12 across: Tailless blue carp from part of Polynesia (6)
Any help gratefully appreciated.

12a) Samoan (sa(d)= blue + moan = carp)

2d) lams (la(m)bs = meek souls)

I think 1d may be lava lava, which is Samoan dress.

I can provide help with 2 out of 3.
For 2 down, your last letter is wrong, so it's not "sail"! Start with a synonym for "meek souls" (young animals led to slaughter), take away "b" for "bishop", and you have a synonym for "attacks".
For 12ac., take a 3-letter synonym for "blue" (feeling), take off its tail, and add a 4-letter synonym for "carp/complain". Result - a native of an island in Polynesia.
As for 1d., at the moment I have .a.(a?)=.a.a.
