I've consistently (but for no real reason) used adaptor to refer to a person who adapts something; adapter for a device. Does this make sense to anyone else?

aah tabby that the problem do i go with adaptor or adapter ? maybe someone out there will say which one they gonna pick ooh the stress i'm not able for this :-(
