I thought a fresh look this morning would help, but no! I have two linked clues left, can anyone help?

47 Down - Adapted the spelling of (10)
A---I-I-E-

51 Across - Worthless, trivial (8)
--M-I-T-

I thought 47 Down could be anglicised, which would then mean that 51 Across would begin with a 'G'.
