Where are all the Saga crossword doers? Skimmed back through last 50 pages of forum (phew!) for help with August x-word, and can't find ANYONE. Stuck on bottom rh corner - 20d and 27a.

What are the clues please duckb, number of letters and any already placed

20d: Ducks taxes without hesitation S-----S
And not sure of 1d: Sea, it's said, as religious article C-S----: thought it was "cassock", but last letter probably needs to be N. Any help much appreciated.

20d scoters (ducks) scots are the taxes, er -the hesitation

1d caspian - sea sounds like C, as pi = religious + n

27a soubise ( a sauce) souse - pickle with bi(bismuth) inside

Thanks sudokulover. Never come across scots as taxes before. Magazine "early"? This is the August one which, like all the others, usually arrives a few days before the start of the month.
