Thanks Trevor, I hadn't thought of 'Counter' as a Rev. indicator before but now you mention it - 'Counter Clockwise'. What about the RU though?

OK, have searched Google and it appears 'UR' is an abbrev. of German origin meaning 'Primitive' or 'Original'. (Like anyone would know that!)

all i can see is Ur Hen backwards - Ur is the oldest city recorded (i should check that), hence, a hen from Ur.

Trevor, you're quoting verbatim something I've already posted. Who's pretending to be you? How can they do that. This is more puzzling than the actual crossword. Hope you get it sorted out. Thanks for your help tonight.
