Finally occurred to me. All clear!

The seven-letter "h" clue involves an American slang term.

Many thanks, Syzygy. I have a problem though: whatever I do there's a kind of window in the middle & all I can print is a tiny extract very enlarged --- no idea why. You're the technical expert: what's gone wrong? I can see the whole quiz but it's impossible to print out.

By the way, the july solution, on the contrary, is perfectly visible &

(sorry) printable i.e. without the little window in the middle that leads to magnification (on an enormous scale)!Could there be an error in the August copy, although Aristo had no problem? gk

It's OK, I've got it all sorted now: God knows what the problem was.Encouraging: think I got 3 of the 4 long ones while waiting to get the thing printed!
