Is it me or are a few of the clues in the latest Times Saturday a little iffy?

1a. Banker has met disaster. Answer Thames. Seems an unusually tenuous definition.

13. It grows in three seconds. Answer moss. mo for moment and two letter esses for seconds? Yuck if I am right.

24. Two for one, in brief. Answer prime. Enough discussion about this already.

Hi Ian.

1a. ... I think that crossword setters quite often try to misdirect us and use the word 'banker' to mean 'river'.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your reply. I've not come across it before. You had me diving for the dictionary and I see:

banker. n. Austral/NZ informal. a river flooded to the top of its banks.

so I guess that is acceptable :-) Still a bit of a stinker though IMO.
