Your idea works better than "bayonet", AB (which had the E in wrong place anyway!). Good idea, though, GK

I have to demand to be let in on a secret: are we talking about "agonist", not in Ch. but google-able? If so what's the "nist"? Fear I'm on completely wrong track, & that wouldn't be a good start if I DID download it now! Mercy, mercy..................

Thanks to all - just one to get started and the rest fell into place very quickly.

Hi GK - it's TRICEPS - TRICE + PS for note. Good luck. I particularly liked 13dn - for those without the crossword it was
Church room tidied so complier, if 22,11 must be female with 2 of these (10)
(22, 11 leads to "X")

Thanks, Chris -- had just realized myself at last! Now of course I'm completely stuck on your favourite: is "church room" def.? And it's not immediately apparent how 22 11 can be X, but perhaps I ought to try the whole thing first. Was attempting to finish Graham Swift's "Wish You Were Here", but perhaps the puzzle wd be a little less morbid...............

I agree about Graham Swift - never again!
Def for 13 is only hinted at by "female with 2 of those"

Chris: actually I like G.S.--once met him after success of "Last Orders" (never seen the film).
Puzzle finished:could you explain 12a -- if it's "generation", why 2nd half of clue?
Strangely enough had complete LHS first myself!

Hi GK,
Just back from shopping, though I'll wait till it has stopped heaving down before unloading the car.
I read ?waterlands (not sure if I have the title right). Found it very depressing.
It is generation, but the forum on the Guardian crossword site don't fully understand it either. I'll look at "fifteensquared" later.

Hi GK,
This is from "Fifteensquared"
12 GENERATION Generation X is the generation born after the Western post–World War II baby boom ended. While there is no universally agreed upon time frame, the term generally includes people born from the early 1960s through the early 1980s, usually no later than 1981 or 1982. Thanks toniL@3
