Ah, right then, so your email address is being used to send messages, that does sound like a far more serious matter.

Hope Norah has a way of sorting this out because we could all be at potential risk.

Is Norah the site host, I thought it was someone called Ash?

Hi jazzgirl, just read with great alarm what has happened. Hope this gets sorted quickly and the guilty party is discovered.

Norah is Ash's Mum. She works from home and passes any matters on to Ash if necessary.
I have changed the password for my forum email, and no further scam emails have been received by her as of this morning. She has promised to let me know, of course, if she receives anymore. I have taken all names out of my "directory" and written them down instead. Thanks again.J

I don't understand - if the site owners know who the multiple posters are, and therefore which ones are really beyond unpleasant, why don't they block their ip addresses?

Nasty, despicable and underhand...it really worries that things like this can happen.

I'm afraid I didn't even notice jazz girl or rumbler.

As others have said hope this gets sorted quickly...

The site owners can, of course, block IP addresses, but will not do so because of the Data Protection Act (i.e. several different people could actually be living at the same IP address, maybe a dozen, and all want to be on the forum....... as if !

'As if' indeed - the chances of these pathetic individuals actually living with other people is extremely remote!

Jazzgirl believe it or not there was a day when the site was not as secure...when anybody could " high jack" your name ...and it did happen.

For a while it was a case of people saying that last post was not by me.

After a lot of complaints...security was tightened and nobody could use your name?...this was maybe about 18 months ago, hard to remember.

that's hard to believe Jazzgirl. I've been banned in the past for swearing. so have others. the real problem is that you can easily use a proxy IP. and that can't be banned. I've also had plenty of people using a slight variation on my name, especially berkspotter variations. using a name very like someone elses isn't in itself a crime and don't forget you once used other names. if it really was true that they won't ban people it can't help to broadcast that fact.

Yes I remember pastille. As Les40 said, anyone can "edit" their name to be almost the same as yours, but with a minute alteration such as a space or a dot. Sad people...
