Stuck on top left-hand side of puzzle. Need some help please. 1A would kick start me. PLAIN BATTER IN PAST SERVED WITH DUCK (6) I only have the O at the end!!!

I saw this answered as Paramo which is a Plain (geography - Great Plains etc).

batter = ram, duck = O.

the rest of the clue escapes me tho.

trevor you're almost there, The Pa is simply an abbreviation for past ... as specified in Chambers.
