i had seen it was an anagram mamya, but still can't really click with the Spells part, even after your explanation of people up for doing spells

Yeh, the trains+ via+ st, is an anagram.

People = men

Up for = wise?

Wise men = Magi(cians)

I'm trying mamya

I could understand if the clue just ended with 'people up' to mean men (people) that are up (well read) wise men being the one's that are well up on their knowledge.
But just can't see the spell connection???
