6d Gap in a piece of wood - I have knot?e?e - think it should be knothole but I have 'zone in on' for 14a Direct oneself towards (a target) which makes the e wrong!

Please help - this is driving me crazy

21 is Hot Water but I cannot work out the knothole one! Is it the e in zone that puts the 1st e in knothole?

And the e in zone is the first letter in knothole! Certainly got me guessing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could 14 be lock on to which sorts the k but doesn'y help with thatfirst e?

No bbc - 14a starts with a z so must be zone which makes the 6th letter of knothole an e! But I appreciate the trouble you are taking with this - many thanks. It's really got me puzzled now.
