At least he had the sense to see the error of his ways. By the way, what's this fascination crossword setters have with the Inquisition (Ximenes, the backwards Azed...)? Must ask Torquemada.

I'm relieved that my posting didn't engender that level of vitriol (so far - see "bubalis" link).


It did remind me of an anagram in a Mephisto yeras ago. The solution was UP TO HIS ???? IN IT and the letters remaining were ARSE. What was I to do?

Crossword setters like to have fun with their pseudonyms and I assume that the likes of Ximenes and Torquemada felt that the name of a famous inquisitor or torturer was appropriate to their trade.
