What are the clues LAura, how many letters and do you have any?

I think I'm staring at the answer,but can't get it.the clue is
gilded leather?verify lining flap worn.I have ????c???t??.

I worked out this as TURN TURTLE I seem to recall
that a female turtle is a sow.
