9ac. Youngssster (9) Ans - Stripling

12ac. Non-U poet's extremely angry, apparently (2,4,3) Ans - So they say.

8d. A painter is very dry outside (6)
ans - Tissot

and if anyone solved 4ac (the clue is too complicated, with references to 3 other clues, to try to explain if you don't have the paper) I'd be interested to see how that derives.

Stripling is a synonym for youngster

Youngssster has 3 esses so it is s tripling or s multiplied by 3

Lad for stripling outside "il" (Italian article meaning "the", as used in Trento) with first of Young Person, to mean a floater - very compicated!

More indebtedness now, djawhufc, AB and Chris E. That clue for lily pad seemed very very abstruse.
I may be a little wiser than I was, if I remember what I've seen.
Thank you all very much. If I were wearing a hat, I'd take it off to you!

In fact, if you see my earlier thread, I was just about to ask for explanation of 4ac, when suddenly it came to me - I had been revising my Italian in preparation for our holiday there next week, so belatedly spotted the "il".
