I was surprised to find "spare" as an alternative definition for "gash", but it's there in Chambers

I would never have considered 'gash' as an equivalent for spare. Obvious for wound. Should have used Chambers. Thank you very much.

I had the letters A?t?t?l?
Is 'Astutely' correct, and if so, why?
