That looks better. Either way, it looks like Linda.

I had written in Linda without understanding it, as the only girl's name that I could see that fitted. Thanks for explanation.

Retting is soaking flax to get rid of the tough bits you don't want (when they're quite rotten) by scutching. The fibres are spun to make linen.
The flax plants had to be pulled by hand, not cut, to get the longest fibres. Their poor hands. Bet you wish you hadn't asked!
