Glad you're stuck on this last one,too! Couldn't it just as easily be "icons"? Can't see the cryptic bit either way, though, I'm afraid!

I was going with idols and taking dols as short for dollar pieces. I may be clutching at straws though.

Maybe, AJT1, but it doesn't fit --- or do I misunderstand you? Anyway I've mailed the editor as I find both equally justifiable & am annoyed about such an ambiguity at the end of a really exhausting 4 hours or so!

You do misunderstand me - I'm afraid I wasn't explicate enough. The answer is surely icons. I meant to explain why a saint could be a coin.
