Can anyone help with 16ac; coral?? I think 8dn is sidearm, but can't work out why.

Also 24ac Weaver?? but why; weave an R maybe; also thought of weasel; as in pop goes - but why propper.
Thanx.

w (easel) easel being a stand or propper.

I didn't like this clue much

I have sidearm too, but don't fully understand the solution.
I have "comma" for 16ac - it's a butterfly, so emerges, and is "c" and "ammo" backwards. Again not wonderfully convincing.

Nice one. I quite like "weasel" too - pop goes the weasel in the nuresery rhyme; "w" for with and "easel" (I hadn't got this until I read this thread, though!)

Thank you 1 & all. I'm currently saying "doh" - good explanation of sidearm & comma; weasel a bit too intricate I think.

I have noticed of late some real hard clues in the G: the references recently to 1066 and all that were brilliant IF YOU KNEW THE BOOK! 25537 is by Bonxie-fairly new on the scene and quite complex. I agree coral for 16a but 1a, 11a, 29a are very devious. Also recently we had "beer goggles"- where that came from Heaven Only Knows

Coral for 16a doesn't fit with sidearm for 8d: I think it must be comma
