Liberal lies God turned up to co-operate on writing out one national anthem (2,12)

It has to be LA MARSEILLAISE, and I can see God=MARS, Liberal=L, and LIES in there all muddled up, but what about the other ALAIE and how does it relate to co-operate on writing out?

You are almost right with the derivation, try LIES (liberally!) RAMA for the backward god and ALLIES. Shake it all up and there you are.

Sorry should have said allies for co-operation though I'm sure you saw that. One can get too excited by these things (sad really)!

How about liaise for co-operate instead of allies it seems to fit the clue better.
