Hello All, it's been quite a while since I posted on this site, primarily because I've been finding the new compiler a lot easier, although not all clues are well constructed. However, I keep reading your posts, so keep up-to-date with what's going on in all your lives!!!
Anyway, best wishes to all, especially those not in good health at the moment - hope you're doing all right Old Gal....

I'm struggling with 13d - there's only one word I can see that fits, although I don't know how or why
I've got
T-I-B E---

also 24a
---L-

Any help gratefully appreciated
Regards to all
Chris

Hello chris
13d is not a word I had heard of.
It means a trick in which a ball is quickly shifted from under one of three cups to fool the onlooker guessing its location
The "doctor" part of the word foxed me for a while until I used it as a verb (3 letters)
The first part of the answer is the "sewer's cover" (for the thumb usually )
24a means to handle. The "join" part of the clue means to join metal by a certain means.
Hope this helps.

Hi, Folks.

I managed to keep RT 49 unopenned since last Thursday when it arrived, and only did the crossword today. If I had been timing myself, I would have needed a calendar rather than a clock. Some words, and presumably programmes with which I am not familiar.

RT 50 crashed through the letter box this morning. Will I be able to leave it unopenned for a week?

Trouble is, Mrs P has discovered the beauty of crossword puzzles, albeit late in life, but it still means that the first up in the morning gets the best go. At first, it was just the general knowledge crosswords that interested her, which is ok, but now she is even grabbing the Wee Stinker in the Herald.

Hope all are well, and that my fellow patients are continuing to weather the storm.

Best wishes.

P.

Magworth, The answer to 10 across is a word that means the total number of people killed, and when a large bell is rung it gives this sound.

thanks,Jazzgirl, I was looking for a manhole cover as in a drain[sewer] rather than someone using needle and thread - although I got the thimble part, but I'm still struggling with the second part can only think of 'ful'. I know the game, but I'm having a very serious senior moment just now... still struggling with 24a - handle.....
I think I'll go and make dinner, perhaps that'll stir the old brain cells up....
Cheers

Hello again chris
24a means to "brandish" (a weapon)
The last 3 letters of 13d rhymes with wig!

Hello Pipesmoker
It is good that Mrs P is now growing fond of the cryptic crosswords - so beneficial to the little grey cells which we must all maintain at all costs. Hope you are keeping well.
