First of all, "Thank you and my apologies for the delay in saying so," to Andy C who posted a second reply to my query on Monday. Once I'd seen the 1st reply, though, I did not return.

In yesterday's puzzle, 'American character, a hard worker claiming (wrongly) I'm louder, turns straight round',(10,4,2,3,3,3,4) became 'kookaburra sits in the old gum tree'.
Could anyone tell me how?

Interesting reading here, mentions USA and the band 'Men at work' - you may be able to pick the bones of the explanation out there.

Thank you, Mamya - I am a little more knowledgeable but not much wiser, as far as the clue is concerned.
I think I'll have to write that one off. Merci.

kook = US slang for crazy/zany person, a character.

+ a bee (a hard worker) round an anagram (wrongly) of " im louder turns straight".

kook a b(urra sits in the old gum tr) ee.
