I've had a pop at this wonderful alphabetical jigsaw and I have two
words left that I can't figure out.
T - A ten-point slope, praise God!
when getting dark. (8 letters)
I have T---B-A-
X - Statue in myth: kiss love that
has no name. (6 letters)
I have XA---N

Are you sure of your letters for the second one? There's a statue listed in Chambers - Xoanon, which looks as if it suits the clue.

Sorry, I was typing in the dark almost! The letters for the "X" clue that I have are:
XO---N and NOT XA---N!

So Xoanon it is!
The other one looks like Tenebrae (brae being the slope) - matins and lauds of the following day, sung during Holy Week.

thanks sudokulover. The clue goes "Swiftly (though navigable) flows the stream" I still do not understand the solution beyond the definition which you have so kindly provided. Is there a stream or river called "Yare" or what am I missing here?
