In each case i have the answer, but can't see the wordplay. Help, please!
1 down : Still at sea, presumably, making these bonds of marriage? (4,5) LOVE KNOTS - but why?

28 down : Part I had in old film: I expect more? (8) OPTIMIST or possibly OPTIMISM - again, why?

Love meaning nil (as in tennis).
So nil Knots(speed) = Stationary
