Have made good progress but stuck on these two which cross each other:-
6D - "Man who was here swapping a hand over
- beer for cocktail". (3,6)
I have K-- -O-A-E
10A - "Joining my old mate at first I tucked
into roast". (9)
I have E-C---A-E
Any help appreciated!

Thanks, smiffy. That's a cocktail I've never heard of! - it looks like the one across is
EXCORIATE but I can't quite see it.

Answer is excoriate. Joining indicates 'my old mate' = ex should be written with my! = core! with 'at' with I=i first, i.e. I infront of iat to give iat tucked in. Hope that this helps. Thus (ex)(cor(i(at))e). heers Roger

here's an alternative.

old mate (as in wife/husband) = old mate
my = cor

old mate at first = ex + cor (my joining) + i ate (tucked into).

ex cor i ate.

Thanks Phillip. Your explanation is much better, and clearly the one expected. Roger
