Two that are giving me some gyp:-
18AC - "Offensive wee chap kicking horse"
-O-T-E (6 letters)
21 D - "First-class for this size of
letter" E-I-E (5 letters)
Second one seems to be ELITE but not
necessarily.

It is Elite, from the typeface

Yes, second one is ELITE, a type font

and 18 across is SORTIE, SHORTIE being an offensive term for a "wee chap" without the H.
