This Brummie is a stinker.

These two (across) clues have me stumped, even though I've got all the checked letters!

Monarch's stage (revolving) erected by state (4)

P-P-

Unusual origins of Newcastle United-style English scorer (7)

L-T-E-S

Thanks for any help!

Hi Toby,
I am not certain about the first one possibly
POPE but don't get the connection.
The answer to the second is LUTYENS,i.e.
N of Newcastle U of united + anag of STYLE.
Elizabeth Lutyens,composer (scorer)
Hope this assists.

I forgot to add a Monarch is a butterfly and so one of its stages is a Pupa!
