Like everyone else I expect, I've struggled like billyo with last Saturday's effort, in
which Araucaria has been at his most fiendish! I've added a few every day in this mindboggling double monster, but have drawn a blank in numerous sections! So, can anyone help with these little delights?

14Down A & B "Beau taking effective
powers, prominent munchers eat with
implement to get hold of caterers".
Both answers are 9 letters long, and
"A" consists of two words, of 4 & 5
letters, of which I have B-C- T---H.
Surely this is "BACK TEETH"? I have no
letters at all for "B", which is one
word of 9 letters.
Another little gem is this one:-
13Down B "...hired one rake exposed by
socialist". This is two words of 4 & 6
and I have -E-R -A-D-E.
Then there's 16Down B "---name of
John, on Devon station". This has 9
letters and I have C-A-E-T-N. The only
wotd I can fit in here is "CLAVERTON"
but that's a place in Somerset.
And is 5Down A "COLE"? The clue is
"Green king---" I have C-L-(4 letters)
And one more to go on with, this one
only being partly clued, due to the
connection with the ongoing theme.:-
18Down "Made dash at Holywell". These
4 words apply to both answers of 7
letters each. I have "D-A---Y" in "A"
and "--L---S" in "B".
Any ideas, anyone?

Many thanks, sudokulover! The trouble is, I've never seen a Harry Potter movie or read a novel about him in my life, so that hasn't helped! Thanks for your response.

rocketman, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was chipping away at it for days. I eventually completed it this morning, and went back to look at the previous thread which I'd avoided until finishing, and was appalled to see people asking for help on Saturday morning. What's the point?

I have been intrigued for a long time by this crossy...

It looks like so much fun...and humorous.

Can anyone give me pointers as to "get started"

As in a "Dummies guide to Guardian Araucaria" .

The dark nights are drawing in...

And the allotment is coming to a halt.

Thanks...

Many thanks again, sudokulover! I had about half of the "B" crossword and a few from the "A" crossword left when you kindly helped me out and I have now gone on and finished this marathon! And, yes, my other puzzle love is sudoku, where I only tackle "moderate" "hard" "difficult" and "fiendish" puzzles and am currently on an unbroken run of 1676 puzzles, having been quite useless at one time! Longest I ever took was about 3 hours, and as you well know, some "difficult" ones you can roll right over in 5 minutes!
Thanks also to Bullfrog for getting in touch and I sgree that it is pointless asking for help on a Saturday! I only ask for help at the last moment and try and work out most of it for myself, otherwise there is no sense of fulfilment.
I am now going to get in my rocket and do the Crocodile Rock! But there are no crocodile tears for not getting that "chap" with "Elton"!
