Clue: Artist's circle, after beginning to starve, tucked into unleavened bread (8)

The letters I have are

R _ S _ E _ T _

and I'm fairly sure they're all right. The only plausible answer I can think of is ROSSETTI (artist), but if this is right I can't work out why. All help greatly appreciated!
