No, don't think so. I think it comes from the Latin word for indigo.

The point that seems to being missed is that indium is an element whose symbol is IN. The rest of the clue is supposed to be humorous as the ? indicates.

Thanks Rogerjw. I didn't think that Moatrat had missed any point, but was just making a casual inquiry. Pretty convinced the explanation at 3 fits the bill.
