I have N?I?H?D.Clue is:"How Incitatus reportedly declined government office."I know who/what I. was,but see no solution---or isn't 8d "contract bridge"(clue was "Agreement with composer for playing in a quartet").Must admit I don't get the "composer" bit.Something's gotta give!!!

Over breakfast here (I'm an insomniac in France) the obvious answer NEIGHED occurred to me!But still don't get the link BRIDGE-COMPOSER:anyone awake anywhere?

and of course, contract bridge involves 4 players
