If you put your letters for 22ac in www.onelook.com you will find what you are looking for. Better to give you a resource to help you in future than just the answer, I hope.

Reactions keep crossing!Alma Tadema is not in my chambers 11th Ed.Will google.as for 16er,the Tennyson quoted is just an example of a line with 16 "strokes",and "Yesteday" refers to the McCartney song,of course!

23 A down: *Drink to the familiar beast. Toddy? Well, it fits, but no definition ought to be necessary, so why, or is the solution something else? Last clue, and I'm mystified.

I have the same misgivings as Martin re 23dn A. Toddy fits, but what's it got to do with "familiar beast" or the keyword? Teddy also fits, and is a "familiar beast" (ie Teddy Bear), but I can't see the connection to "drink" or the keyword. Can anyone explain either?

Still struggling with most of this, the above has been very helpful. My guess is that Toddy refers to Mr Tod (the fox)which was written by the keyword.
